Summary of the 2014 sintered corundum market and changes in future demand

Author: Comefrom: Release time:2025/5/21 17:04:54

In 2014, the overall production capacity of sintered corundum in China was approximately 254000 tons, with a domestic demand of approximately 230000 tons. In terms of market share, the top three companies are Anmai (21.7%), Zili (21.7%), and Jinghui (17.4%), which account for over 60% of the overall market share, while other companies account for less than 40%.

Based on the overall refractory material data in China this year, the refractory material production capacity has already shifted from "structural surplus" to "comprehensive surplus", resulting in low price competition for products, chaotic market order, further shrinking product profit margins, and difficult to change in the short term solely relying on industry self-discipline. The downstream products of sintered corundum, including the three major components for continuous casting and refractory products such as sliding plates, also have a serious overcapacity. Based on the above data, the sintered corundum market is still not optimistic next year.

In terms of raw materials, the current price of Australian produced alumina remains at 2800-2850 yuan/ton, and there may not be significant fluctuations in the future market. Although Australian produced alumina has cancelled import tariffs, it has not had a substantial impact on the price of Australian produced alumina. Most alumina traders have high expectations for the future import alumina market, mainly due to the rapid development of the domestic electrolytic aluminum industry and the increase in demand for alumina.

Based on the analysis of the overall refractory market situation this year, there will not be a significant adjustment in the demand for sintered corundum market next year. Although the demand for the three major components of skateboards and continuous casting may decrease in the market. But there may be adjustments to its application in other products. (For example, sintered corundum has great advantages in replacing white corundum)

With the development of varieties and stable improvement of quality of refractory materials, the consumption of refractory materials will gradually decrease. At present, the overall consumption of refractory materials in the steel industry has decreased to about 15kg/t, and the consumption of refractory materials for new dry process cement kilns has decreased to 0.5kg/t clinker. The service life of float glass kilns has also basically reached the level of 8 years. It seems that the demand for refractory materials in the next few years will show an overall downward trend, which will inevitably have an impact on the demand for refractory raw materials such as sintered corundum to a certain extent.
