Low-Carbon Refractories: From “Optional” to “Mandatory”
2025 marked a critical year for China to achieve its “dual carbon” goals, with environmental policies shifting from end-of-pipe regulation to full life-cycle green manufacturing. The refractory materials industry is now facing unprecedented pressure for green upgrades.
Product Upgrade Pathways:
1.Chromium-Free Upgrade: Magnesia-spinel bricks for cement kilns have fully replaced directly bonded magnesia-chrome bricks, with the industry’s “chromium-free rate” surpassing 90%.
2.Lower Thermal Conductivity: By developing lightweight and high-strength materials, energy consumption can be reduced. Advanced energy-saving linings can currently cut heat loss by more than 10%.
3.Low-Carbon Binders: Environmentally friendly resin and water-based binders are replacing phenolic resin, significantly reducing VOC emissions during installation.
Enterprise Response Strategies:
Companies are advised to apply for “Green Factory” and “Green Product” certifications. In government procurement and large state-owned enterprise tenders, carbon footprint labeling is becoming a critical entry requirement. Starting in 2026, small and medium-sized enterprises that fail to complete green transformation will face higher pollution costs and stricter market access restrictions.
