On December 11th, the personalized new impregnated diamond drill bit "T1-SP281" independently developed by Southwest Engineering Technology Research Institute made a breakthrough in the application of the fourth section of the Xujiahe Formation in Well Yangshen 1. The drill bit has a footage of 117 meters and an average mechanical drilling speed of 1.79 meters per hour, an increase of 47.93% compared to imported diamond drill bits.

For the deep and highly abrasive formation of Xujiahe in low-permeability and tight gas reservoirs, the innovative design of this drill bit adopts a mixture of columnar vertical and horizontal impregnated teeth to enhance the drill bit's resistance to grinding and attack performance. Before entering the well, technicians went deep into the drill bit manufacturing plant, drilling company, and research university to fully demonstrate the technical measures and emergency plans for drill bit entering the well, and optimized the drilling parameters in real time according to the working conditions. This drill bit was tested for the second time in the Yangshen 1 well, with a total drilling depth of 262.36 meters. It mainly encountered shale and sandstone, as well as a small amount of gravel layers, further verifying the adaptability of the drill bit in the Xujiahe section of the well.

In recent years, Southwest Engineering Institute has been closely focusing on "cost reduction and efficiency improvement, drilling speed increase and efficiency improvement". The breakthrough in the independent development and improvement of drilling speed of the new impregnated diamond drill bit "T1-SP281" has broken the situation of deep Xujiahe Formation relying on imported drill bits. The cost of a single drill bit has been reduced by 30%, and a path of independent innovation has been explored in terms of speed increase, cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
